Open Question: If illegals are costing one state their education costs are nearly $12 billion annually how much would it be?
If illegals are costing one state their education costs are nearly $12 billion annually how much would it be if an accounting of the costs were added up across America ? The legislator most responsible for bringing comprehensive immigration reform — the law-and-order kind — to the Sooner State presses on.

State Rep. Randy Terrill, a Republican member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, has authored a bill — Quality of Education Assessment for Oklahoma Citizens Act of 2010 — which would mandate that public school districts “measure and assess” how many of the enrolled students are here illegally.

One purpose of the assessment? To learn what the cost is to legal Oklahomans.

It’s a fair query.

And a pertinent one.

The education of these children is no small endeavor. Taxpayers have a right to know those numbers, as do lawmakers who bear the responsibility of crafting and voting for state budgets. Citing statistics compiled by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), of Washington, D.C., Terrill estimates that in 2006 Oklahoma spent $160 million a year educating students who are unlawfully in the United States. Nationwide the total K-12 public school expenditure for illegal immigrant education costs the states nearly $12 billion annually.

Americans have to thank the U.S. Supreme Court for this educational budget buster.

In a 5-to-4 majority vote, the Supremes, in the case known as Plyler v. Doe (1982), ruled that states cannot withhold education funding to children who are illegal aliens. This, despite the fact that Justice William J. Brennan, Jr., writing for the majority, opined that “public education is not a ‘right’ granted to individuals by the Constitution.”

That confession, from an unapologetic liberal no less, is of scant comfort to those who, today, bear the burden for instructing those students due to this bizarre foray into judicial activism.

Resolved Question: If you have read The Outsiders……?
What grade would you give my essay?
I’ve already posted this once, i know. I feel really annoying but I NEED an awesome grade on this.

Okay, well I just finished the Outsiders in english and we had to pick our favorite character and write an essay on how they change through out the novel. I really need a good grade, can you please tell me what you think about my essay.
oh, the format was
Paragraph 1- Intro
Paragraph 2- How the character is in the beginning
Paragraph 3- What conflicts does the character face and how does he/she react
Paragraph 4- What is the character like at the end of the story
Paragraph 5- Conclusion

S. E Hinton’s novel, The Outsiders, is the story of teenagers growing up in Oklahoma in the early 1960’s. There is an ongoing war between the social classes, the Socs, and the Greasers. Dallas Winston (Dally) is a 17 year old greaser. He has very light blonde hair, ice blue eyes, and sharp features. Dally changes because of the conflicts he encounters throughout the story.
Dally is a greaser. Not only is he a greaser, he’s pretty much a full fledged hood. He‘s the meanest, and definitely the toughest. Dally is from the streets of New York. He’s seen people killed in real gang fights, he was arrested at age ten, he lies, cheats, steals, fights. According to Ponyboy, Dally “has a hatred of the whole world” (10). Dally is really cold and doesn’t seem to really care about anyone, except Johnny. When Johnny got jumped, Dally didn’t take it easily. “Dally had seen people killed on the streets of New York’s west side, why did he look sick now?” Ponyboy thought after seeing Dally’s face when Johnny got jumped (33). If a guy as rough and tough as Dallas Winston, who has seen shoot outs go down left and right, looks sick when he sees Johnny all beat up, it shows that he really, truly cares about him. So, although he may be cold, mean, and hard, he does have a soft spot, although he may not show it often, for Johnny.
Fast forward to when Ponyboy and Johnny were saving the kids from the burning church in Windrixville. When Johnny and Pony were inside, Dally ran in and risked his life to save Johnny’s. Dally got Johnny out of the flaming church after a huge piece of wood knocked him unconscious, and Dally ended up saving Ponyboy’s life too by knocking him out of the fire. If it was anyone else but Johnny, anyone else, Dally almost definitely wouldn’t have done that. Dally and Johnny had to be hospitalized. Dally was fine but Johnny was in bad shape. “We got to win that fight tonight. We gotta get even with the Socs, for Johnny.” (125) Dally said, after Two-Bit and Pony delivered the news that Johnny wasn’t doing too well. The greasers did win the rumble and Dally and Pony left immediately to deliver the news to Johnny. When they saw Johnny, he really was in bad condition. Dally and Ponyboy tried talking to him and told him the news, but it was too late to even have a conversation. Johnny said his last words, and died. Dally couldn’t handle it. He got up, punched the wall, and ran out. Dally is overwhelmed by anger and sadness, probably feeling like he is responsible for Johnny’s death because he told Johnny and Ponyboy to go to the church in the first place. Johnny, the only thing Dally has every loved, is dead. “Dallas is gone. He ran out like the devil was after him. He’s going to blow up. He couldn’t take it.”(152) Ponyboy said to Darry. Ponyboy was right. Dally robbed a grocery store and now was running from the cops. When the cops caught up with him in the lot, Dally pulled out his unloaded gun, which he previously told Ponyboy was only used for a bluff, and the police shot him down. Now that Johnny was dead, Dally had nothing to live for and wanted to die. So he set up his own death. He committed suicide and Ponyboy knew it. No one ever would have thought that Dallas Winston had a breaking point, but he did.
It may not seem like Dally’s character changed throughout the novel. His character was bitter, mean, and cold in the beginning and remained that way to the end. Dally’s character change did not come in his personality traits or his actions, but the change was in his emotions. Dally went through his whole life hard and cold, not dealing with his emotions or feelings. The only person Dally ever opened up to was Johnny. Johnny was the only thing Dally ever loved. When Johnny died, the pain inside Dally was so intense that he finally has to deal with his emotions for the first time. The overwhelming feelings of grief, sadness, and anger took over him and he couldn’t take it. He couldn’t handle the intense feelings he was having, so he gave up, and committed suicide.
